Eat Smart Maryland
Kendra M. Bolden, Dietetic Intern
University of Maryland, College Park
The Eat Smart Maryland Web site was created by the Maryland State Department of Education for their School and Community Nutrition Programs Branch. This site provides information about several federal food and nutrition programs that help Maryland residents learn to eat smart.
Links to programs available to Maryland residents are showcased on the site, including school nutrition, child and adult care, summer food service, food distribution, and professional development and technical assistance. A section with current topics of interest such as statistics on free and reduced-price meals, Maryland’s Healthy School toolkit, memos, and others are included. Additional resources are available on the site as well. Resources are categorized in groups specifically for parents, children, and nutrition-related links. Lastly, a staff directory of the School and Community Nutrition Programs Branch is listed to encourage individuals to contact staff members.
The Eat Smart Maryland Web site serves as a valuable tool to any professional in locating federal programs to recommend to patients. This site also makes it possible to stay up-to-date with current school/community nutrition news in Maryland. |
