Kidshealth.org from the Nemours Foundation (Nemours) is an interactive Web site for parents, kids, and teens that provides articles, games, and interactive tools reviewed by health care professionals. Alfred I. DuPont created the Nemours foundation in 1936. Since then, Nemours has expanded to Pennsylvania, Florida, and Delaware with children’s hospitals and health clinics. The organization is dedicated to clinical research for children and provides information to the public through various media.
Kidshealth.org is geared towards parents, children, and teens but health and other professionals can utilize information as well. Each section addresses nutrition, physical activity, medical conditions, recipes for different health issues or concerns, and other topics that are of particular interest to parents, children, or teenagers. In addition, many sections are available in Spanish.
The parent’s section includes the information discussed above but is split based on the child’s age group. There is also a section about pregnancy and delivery. The children’s section includes games, movies, and other activities to facilitate learning. The teens’ section contains information about self esteem, body image issues, drugs and alcohol, in addition to the general issues discussed before.
As a health professional, one can access the site and find information pertaining to the issue at hand to advise the client. One can also print the articles or recipes for the parent or just provide the link to view the information at a later time. The health professional can ask the children and adolescents to perform the activities and games for learning. KidsHealth from Nemours contains valuable information relating to many issues that families face and is a useful resource for the health care professional. |
